Princess Cruise Line......for Kids??

Princess Cruise Line......for Kids??

Princess Cruise Line has been around for over 50 years.  They were the first commercial cruise line to begin cruising in Alaska.  I was recently on a cruise where nearly 1/3 of the guests were platinum or elite Captain's Circle members (e.g. loyalty program meaning there were people are on their 5th, 6th, 7th+ cruise).  Given this loyal following and the age of the cruise line, it's no surprise that many of the guests are... seasoned citizens.

I recently took my 2 daughters ages 9 and 11 on a Princess Cruise with an open mind and wanted to review it from the family view point.  Could Princess Cruise Lines provide an environment to keep my kids stimulated?  Could they possibly live up to their expectations having only cruised Disney Cruise Line before?

The answer is YES!!!

My girls had a fantastic time.  Princess has partnered with Discovery Channel to provide innovative kids programming at sea.  The kids club is well themed and provides daily entertainment and excitement with a slightly educational twist.  To be honest, they spent MORE time in the kids clubs on Princess than they did on Disney Cruise Line.

Even though this cruise was over spring break, there were still relatively few children on board (about 300 passengers under age 21).  THis meant that they got to really know their fellow ship mates, made great friends, and they received personalized attention from the crew.

What about food?  There is no shortage of kid friendly food both in the main dining rooms and in the buffet and by the poolside.  Hot dogs and pizza are easy to find at nearly all hours of the day.

What about pools?  The pools on our ship (the Regal Princess) were fantastic.  Although there are no waterslides, there is plenty of room for swimming and wading.  They keep them open late (unlike some other lines) so kids can swim while the adults watch movies under the stars.

In addition to the facilities, Princess is rolling out some incredible innovations with the Medallion program https://www.bluepineappletravel.com/news-notes/2019/4/3/the-medallion-experience-on-princess-cruises This technology is great for kids and parents.  I have to think this technology is part of an on going effort to continue to attract younger and first time cruisers.

If you want a wonderful family vacation without the screaming sounds of go-karts and water slides or at a more affordable price point than Disney Cruise Line, consider Princess Cruise Line as a fantastic option.  I can't wait to come back with the family!
